The 20th anniversary Southbury Celebration 2018 is a free event which will include 14 food vendors and food trucks, music, fellowship, and an expanded fireworks show. The whole community is invited.
Food options will include hot dogs, hamburgers, pulled pork, smoked brisket, pulled chicken, mac and cheese, red hots, grilled kielbasa, chili dogs, sweet potato fries, New England clam chowder, fish and chips, chicken tenders, baked goods, gourmet popcorn, cotton candy, fried dough, donuts, and ice cream.
Musical performances will be provided by numerous, talented high school musicians with Pomperaug High School Choral Director Linda Hughes. Everyone is welcome to get up and dance or sit, relax, and listen to the music.
Participants are encouraged to bring chairs or blankets and arrive early to avoid the last-minute traffic.
The National Anthem will be performed at 7:45 pm immediately before the fireworks, launched by Atlas PyroVision Entertainment Group. Sound, stage and lighting expertise will be provided by PowerStation Events, Cheshire.
A free shuttle bus will depart from Heritage Village paddock at 5:30 pm and from Grace Meadows Senior Housing at 5:45 pm. Reservations are required for the shuttle. Heritage Village residents sign-up at HV Activities and Grace Meadow residents at their community center. The bus will return immediately after the fireworks at approximately 8:15 pm.
Southbury Fire and Ambulance personnel are bringing their 102’ ladder truck, Engine #4, and their heavy rescue and will provide public safety information. Southbury Ambulance Association ambulances and personnel will answer questions.
No alcohol is permitted at the event.
The event is located at at Lake Stibbs, Rt. 172 on the Southbury Training School campus. Free parking will be available on the Southbury Training School Great Front Lawn. Due to congested event traffic and safety concerns, there will be no pedestrian walking or vehicle parking along Route 172. Expanded Handicap and Special Needs parking is available at the Lake Stibbs parking lot.
